I paint a rectangle on eleven postcards, sending them to locations along a straight line that extends farther and farther from my studio. The rectangles shrink in direct correlation with the increasing distance. I use AI to calculate the surface area of the rectangles.

Destination cities are: Essen, Germany / Hünfeld, Germany / Veselí nad Lužnicí, Czech Republic / Zistersdorf, Austria / Šurany, Slovakia / Sebeș, Romania / Safranbolu, Turkey / Sarikaya, Turkey / Haliliye, Turkey / Nasiriyah, Iraq / Kuwait City, Kuwait

Work statement

How does the distance between me and a random place affect what I know about it? Does my emotional connection to a location depend on how far away it is? Probably not. In the past, when there was no electronic communication, no cars, planes, or other means of transport, this might have been true. People had to focus on what and who was close to them. But today, the amount of information I have about a place depends solely on my interest in it.
